Wednesday 21st December signalled a knockout blow in the life of boxing’s best fighter Floyd Mayweather. Having hit the news over the last 12 months for all the wrong reasons Floyd has finally been dealt a finishing blow as he has been sent to jail for 6 months. According to reports he will serve 90 days jail time and the other 90 suspended as well as 100 hours community service.
Having to hand himself in on the 6TH January, will be a hard pill to swallow as during the his legal battle’s Floyd has not shown up for most of his cases a sign that he doesn’t like to be pinned down for two long.
With the cases building up against Mayweather it is no surprise that he has opted to submit a plea bargain as fighting the case as well as other pending cases could have lead to 30 years behind bars.
For a fighter to use his fists against his ex girlfriend it looked like a given that the book was going to be thrown at Mayweather and with other cases coming up it will be a bitter relief that this case has been settled.
So what now for boxings nestg fighter, a scheduled 5th May return to the ring will hardly be on the cards, as he will need a longer time to get back to fighting shape after being laid up for 90 days. And the truth is love him or hate him boxing fans will forgive his bad behaviour once he come out and steps into the richiest fight in boxing history with Manny Pacquiao. But will Pacquiao hang around to wait on Mayweather. He is not exactly on for hanging around to long between fights. Unless his political career slows him down I can’t see Pacquiao waiting until say August to step back into the ring.
For it could be bad news for fight fans as the most anticipated fight in boxing history may have to wait until 2013 before it can go ahead, and time ebbing away may rub the shine of the fight away from the sport.
