Legwear, also known as hosiery, is a garment worn on feet and legs. It was originally used as a term to describe any and all products sold and made by hosiers. Typically these accessories are worn as a combination of outer and undergarments. However, they may be worn exclusively as an undergarment too.
The term may be used to refer to different types of knitted fabrics. In general, these garments are constructed using a knitting method. Modern styles are more fitting on the body. Old designs had a fitted look because they were bound.
There are many different styles. Some common types: toe socks, knee highs, tights or pantyhose, stockings or sussies, socks, leggings and holdups or thigh-high stockings. Hold-ups or thigh-highs are a type of stocking that includes an elastic band at the top to hold the stockings up without use of garters or a garter belt. Leggings are fitted garments that cover the legs. Men and women can wear them. They are typically ankle length, worn partially covered by other clothes and come in a variety of fabrics and designs.
Socks come in many different lengths and styles. It is an item of clothing worn over the foot. Some examples of different sock styles: tube, knee-highs, over-the knee, toe socks. Stockings are elastic garments that cover the foot and leg. They can vary in design, transparency and color. Typically, females wear these garments for warmth, aesthetics or fashion. Tights or pantyhose are worn on the lower half of the body. They generally pull up above the waist and extend down and over the feet. Women and girls wear these most often.

Support style combine nylon and spandex material to offer a comfortable fit that is also helpful in reducing the occurrence of leg fatigue. For slimming, some women wear control tops. Maternity styles are designed to keep blood circulating while offering extra room and comfort for pregnant women.
