BATTLE OF THE WARM UP SONGS MANNY, SHANE and....FLOYD?

10-May-11 14:06

It’s normally a critical error if a boxer is preceded into the ring by a rapper* but there is an astrix on that for good reason.

*The caveat is always - unless the rapper is LL COOL J singing "MOMMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT". Mind you it didn’t help Sugar Shane on Saturday but it certainly did not hurt.

Saturday nights pre fight warm up walk out songs battle was in many ways as exciting as the fight.

First there was the battle of the national anthems. With a one for one Philipines vs Star Spangled banner - then topped by none other than Acadamy award winner actor, comedian and acomplished rapper singing a special extra anthem. ’America the beatiful.’ (After an emotional and potentially volitile week.)

But then - Who could top LL singing the ultimate fight night, training and work out song..Sugar Shane Mosely and his team looked like he had it won!

But then not to be out done..Manny was lead out by Jimmy Jaimeson, one time Survivor, theme from Rocky3, front man, singing ’THE EYE OF THE TIGER’ Pitch perfect all the way to the ring. It was a master political stroke from the new Senator.

Lets face it - probably only Brian Johnson belting out an ACDC classic could guzuph that!

Every one knows that, but unless they start producing a spate of scottish boxing stars we are unliekly to see that in a hurry. Brilliant work on the pre fight show. But arent all these Mosely bashing events just warm ups themselves?

As 50 cent says at the end of inda club, ’Don’t try to act like you ain’t know where we been either...’

Now if only FLOYD ’FAIRWEATHER’ would get wise and realise that this once in a life time chance to take on a real worthy oponent won’t last for ever.

Ali fought Fraiser - the first time when he wasn’t completely ready after the lay off and a couple of lame exhibition fights.

That NOUGHT on MONEY’s record won’t be worth anything in a few years, if Manny gets beaten or retires or Floyds legal team gets lazy trying and he ends up stretched.

Floyd needs to monitise it ASAP or wear it like a scar for ever-more as the hole in his record.  That 41 with the zero losses at the then end of it is not just a 0. It is the space left by the fight we may never see. He might as well draw a smily face on it or start rapping himself.

But we may never know what the truth is - Floyd probably knows he just can’t get ACDC to sing ’THUNDERSTRUCK’ on his way out to the ring and has just given up.
