I’m still staggering around trying to get my head around this. The second Krzstztof’s punch almost put the Green Machine through the ropes - it all suddenly made sense... This Cinderella story was in for a reboot.
In retrospect the rounds Greeny had won - had actually contributed to his loss. NOT that he was getting over confident or skylarking in anyway - BUT that he did’nt have enough steam left in the later rounds. Oh and Wlodarczyk had been wearing Greeny down at a progressive and exponential rate. I am not one to join the chorus expecting Greeny to retire. But apart from Hopkins I can’t see a fight that would garner him much respect if he went out on it. On a win or a loss. 3 K.O’s even tko’s tends to be the big kibosh on any career. But I recon he’s still got a hunger, a tenacity and the skill. So I am wondering...what happens next. Maybe a whole lot of colour commentary and discussions about the biggest night in boxing and all that blah blah blah ...But maybe not.
I recon after they have swept all the pumkin seeds away - we still might see some one who recognises what a undervalued entertainer Danny Green is. And how that might relate to a late career bout in the Micky Ward tradition.
