May - The "New" April

27-May-08 18:40

Like everyone I’ve ever confronted in a Men’s Room that feels the need to converse, I thought I’d start this blog with a weather comment.  The title of this blog is a tribute to the latest gem I heard regarding everyone’s favorite topic.

As everyone knows the Mosley-Judah PPV next weekend is cancelled.  It’s a shame because there are only so many opportunities left to see “Sugar” do his thing.  I’d like to see him take on Carlos Quintana in October, if C-los still has his belt after a rematch against Paul Williams on June 7th.  If so, Shane will be in position to close his career against “Pretty Boy” next May.  No one really thinks we’ll see “Monopoly Money” in the ring against the Cotto-Margarito winner, do we?

American crowned a new “Idol” this week.  I was happy to see the executives from the Fox Network decided to build up its biggest night with a boxing theme.  Jim Lampley and Michael Buffer made guest appearances throwing cliché’s at the audience in a 24/7 like format before the David’s (Archuleta and Cook) took the stage.  The only thing missing was a Howard Lederman scorecard, which would have had Archuleta as the new “Idol” with a 30-26 score (gotta give the little-big man a 10-8 first round).  I didn’t watch the results show, but had to smile when I read that Cook won by a landslide.  That’s what happens when you let it go to the scorecards!

I’m looking forward to kicking off my Memorial Day weekend with the Hatton – Malignaggi doubleheader on the “VS” network this afternoon.  I’m even more excited about a potential train ride to see the jr. welterweights face off in Newark, NJ this fall.

I’ll reserve my fireworks rant until the first week of July, however along the same lines, I was thinking about something else that hasn’t improved during my pit stop on this Earth.  That would be the “haircut”.  “High and tight”, “Skin to Fade” is probably the first cut someone learns when going for their certificate, however, I’m shocked by how inconsistent my haircuts have been.  And the worst part is that a $5 cut, now costs me $18 (without shampoo).  I think its time someone at least explains the + 300% cost spike.

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend, and of course, takes advantage of this great weather we’re having!
