By Paul Upham: The end of 2010 is now drawing to a close. With all of the elite boxers having thrown their last official punch for the calendar year, the time is right to formulate your year end 2010 pound for pound rankings.
Manny Pacquiao still leads the way in my view over Floyd Mayweather Jnr. “Money” may have the undefeated record and could possibly beat “Pac-Man”. But until they get into the ring to prove it, Pacquiao gets the edge on activity and willingness to face and defeat bigger opponents. But Pacquiao should be rematching No.3 Juan Manuel Marquez again in 2011, instead of facing Shane Mosley next.
Sergio Martinez is the rising star of the P4P class this year. Bernard Hopkins returns after his recent impressive performance over Jean Pascal in Canada. Hopkins may well be one of the greatest 40 year-old boxers of all time.
I still say Vitali Klitschko is the better fighter over his younger brother. Don’t be surprised if Dave Haye selects Wladimir as his preferred opponent of the two. There is a reason for this.
Andre Ward receives recognition for his 2010 wins over Allan Green and Sakio Bika.
