The most signifigant bout this weekend on offer is obviously The Dusseldorf stoush of Wladimir Klitschko , 53-3(47) ( IBF/WBO Champion ) Against slick American Eddie Chambers , 35-1(18)
Chambers will be giving away 6 inches in height , over 35 pounds in weight and a quantum leap in title fight experience. Added to this a hometown advantage for the towering Ukrainian and you have a monumental task for the Philadelphian.
The closest match stylistically in Wlad’s resume to ’ Fast Eddie ’ would be Chris Byrd in terms of constant angles and crisp , but not spectacular punching.
Chambers is coming to score the upset but logic dictates a Wlad win , somewhere between rounds 8-12 as has become his template for thrilling victory of late ( Note the sarcasm ). Would be great to see a Chambers win to shake up the monotonous lethargy gripping the division of late. Personally it would be great to see exciting Brit David Haye unify all marbles and electrify the masses - but that may be a pipe dream.
Time will tell.
Meantime , I just saw Randall Bailey’s destruction of Jackson Osei Bonsu - a Fan uploaded the result on youtube. Bailey proves yet again the last skill a boxer ever loses is god given power. Get thee to a computer and check it out. For highlight KO’s on his resume Bailey is starting to mirror one of my favourites , Julian Jackson. Never a boring moment , win or lose. This was a IBF Welterweight eliminator for the title held by Jan Zaveck of Slovenia ( Domiciled in Germany ). Who knows , maybye Randall can be a 2 weight champ 11 years removed from his 19 second destruction of Carlos ’ Bolilo ’ Gonzalez?
Have never seen Zaveck in action , will have to check that fellow out.
