Topic: Other Boxing Websites
Johnboy (58 Posts) on Sun 1-Nov-2009:

It is my opinion that Secondsout pretty much sets the standards for boxing journalism on the web, and is the only website I've seen so far that would qualify as a "web magazine" on that basis.
The others have their problems. FightNews, for example, is pretty much a recycling shop for general news stories and press releases. They are good insofar as that goes, but they don't do a lot of their own work. Eastsideboxing has some good writers, but also a pile of truly awful ones. The way that site is run gives me plenty of cause to imagine a gang of pimply-faced junior high school kids giggling "way to flame him, dude!"
Care to share your thoughts and experiences with boxing news websites?

Well put.  I like your evaluation of eastside, some of the comment trails attached to the stories are a very amusing read.  I don’t look to fightnews for boxing journalism; its strength is its comprehensive and timely reporting of boxing results across the globe.  What about  I am very impressed at how well the designers have captured boxing data and made it accessible.  As for secondsout, it is by far my favourite boxing site for one simple reason; Thomas Hauser.

As a Secondsout writer, I am clearly biased, but I love that we are truthfully a world boxing website and that we don't just cover the top fighters of the USA or one country.

I'm glad to hear people saying this and hope we can continue to keep your opinion of the site high.

I must say DBO, one of the reasons I was attracted to SecondsOut was your coverage of the smaller fighters. I think the European coverage here is great, you can get the world opinion on boxing.

Secondsout and Boxrec are the only boxing websites that matter. I use them in conjunction with each other (ie find out whats happening on boxrec then get a balanced view from secondsout).
