Great news for british boxing, shows that the public care about the sport with Ricky hatton in 3rd place and Joe Calzaghe in first place - a bit of a bloody nose for the sponsors and broadcasters who shun the sport.

After Zara Phillips won last year had no idea which way it would go. The right man won though. Personally dont think Hatton or Hamilton deserved thier places

The B.B.C.  need to open their eyes...!!!!  they genually believed that boxing no longer had a place in their schedules, and guess what...???? first and third places of their valued "Sports Personality of The Year" award go to a sport that they dropped like a hot spud, voted by members of the public watching B.B.C.1 prime time on a Sunday night who never even bloody see the sport on the B.B.C......if ever there should be a "Stewards Enquiry" as to who spends our license money on what within the Corporation then NOW'S THE TIME RIGHT THERE...!!!!
And guess what....second place went to a Formula One racing driver.....what a surprise....another sport the beeb turned their back on....'tell you what someone up there on floor six needs his head examining (.....and let's not forget "Coach of the Year".....now which sport might that have been..????  Yuuup....Boxing...!!!! ) if that had been poker it would have been a Royal flush I reckon.
Pay attention B.B.C. Sports....just put your hands up and we'll accept your apology...now do something about it..!!!!!

Great to see boxing finally hit the big time for general sports fans! Boxing is finally back as a top sport in this country and with 7 world champions, and a potential superstar in Amir Khan on the rise, boxing will go from strengh to strengh!

Great stuff and glad to see Joe Calzaghe win the award!

Boxing began in England, and it is in England that it will return to its former glory.

Spot on, although boxing appeared in the ancient olympics 688 BC the modern sport is English invention, Anglais boxing.  Whilst the US, particularly the immigrant population have been fairly dominant over the years that is starting to change and Britain and Europe have definatley caught up. Sure US Fans may slate European fighters, but the fact is the Brits,  in particular Calzaghe, Haye and Hatton are every bit as good if not better!
