probably because he'd rather be doing what hatton is doing right now and raising his profile. can only really do that fighting in the states against hopkins and all the media attention that will go with it. $$$

Yes but what a great domestic match, if Calzaghe is sure about light heavy what better way to prove it

I remain convinced despite the b*llocks going on in Vegas with Calzaghe and Hopkins - Frank Warren is a bloody good business man - he will make the fight with Woods.
Dennis Hobson knows Clinton wants the fight -
I am convinced as long as everyone is sensible it will be made.

I have no doubt Calzaghe will fight both Woods and Hopkins.
He HAS to fight a marquee US name, he's said it and everyone else has said it. And there is noone else apart from Hopkins. Pavlik and Wright are smaller men and Taylor is damaged goods now. It doesn't get any bigger or better than Hopkins. Chad Dawson is a possibility but he's seen as a talent rather than a big name at this point.
Woods is the 2nd best LH on the planet right now, and Joe versus Clinton will be a massive fight in UK. Big money spinner over here. and Clinton wants it badly!
If he beats both of them, he could claim to be the bets fighter in the world at both SM and LH. Hell of a way to end his career...

To be honest, I don't see what Calzaghe has to gain by beating Clinton. By beating Hopkins he can secure his legacy, Clintons name wouldn't really add a great deal to that, and there is the danger of him losing if he doesn't get fired up enough for a fight.

Angus, I agree that Hopkins is the bigger fight out of the two. But Clinton is a legitimate title holder at LH and has defeated some top class fighters. He's consensus no 2 in the division right now. Joe wants to be two-weight world champ, well he can do that by beating Hopkins. If he then goes and beats Woods, he's got 2 belts and will be undisputed no 1 LH. That's best in the world at two weights. Some legacy... Hopkins, Woods then retirement would be my pan for Joe. There's no-one else worth facing for him.

I think (and Enzo suggested as much today) that Calzaghes days of domestic fights are over. He will fight Hopkins, then possibly RJJ if he wins and retire with faculties intact. Clinton will have to look elsewhere to make his name across the pond.

Joe Cal is at that point in his career where he can fight for themoney and does not need a belt to prove he is the best.

Whilst i like Clinton, i think Calzaghe needs to stick to the big names prior to retiring in order to cement his legacy.

Agree on The RJJ comment, when he beats hopkins, he's the only other guy worth fighting and then retirement. He's a sponsors dream at the mo after winning sports personality. Expecting him to be help selling Grills and gillete razors this time next year with another $5m in the bank.
Best fighter from the Uk in the past 20 years by a mile.
