So Amir Khan is chasing a New York dance with Paulie Malignaggi, what a surprise.

Khan has all the offensive tools in the world going forward and his speed and power are something to behold but his own talk of being a genuine world champion is still a little unrealistic.

Since the Prescott set back, he is yet to have a fight – the Fagin scuffle was an understandable return and putting the ghost of Barrera to bed doesn’t look bad on the CV but beating the mechanical, punchless Kotelnik and the comedic mandatory challenge of Dmitry Salita does not a world force make.

A little humility goes a long way as Audley Harrison also still hasn’t realised.

Now Khan has the chance to prove he is progressing by accepting a clash with the far less comedic mandatory Marcos Maidana instead of pursuing the smaller, shot J M Marquez, the once great Ricky Hatton or the ticket shifting Magic Man, who even a shot Hatton manhandled to defeat.

If Khan entertained and beat Maidana, followed that with Tim Bradley then looked at acid testing Edwin Valero and won…..wow, what a fighter the UK could proudly boast and if he lost against any of them, then wow, fairplay to the young warrior.

After that of course, Mayweather and Pacman may just fancy their own tussle with a young Englishman who’s stock would have risen sky high.

As it is, expect an early rounds KO against Malignaggi, then maybe the same against Ricky Hatton on Manchester City’s pitch in the Autumn.

I dont know what happened above ^^ apologies...

As I was saying....I agree that Khan hasn't had the hardest fights he could have and that yes, his confidence can be classed as arrogance, but dont mention him in the same breathe as Audley Harrison please!

Also, I think you are jumping the gun a bit stating that Marquez is shot...because he lost comprehensively to Mayweather Jr at 147?! A tad of an overstatement to say the least...

The boy is 22/23, and you are expecting him to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao after 3 more fights?! Give him time!! I think Malignaggi or Marquez are good fights for him, he needs to establish himself in the US and go from there. I think he has the tools to beat these two, and could then go on and fight bigger names once he is more experienced and more established.

Be patient...and dont expect him to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao in his next 4-5 fights, and dont criticise him for not doing so...its just not going to happen!

Ps. I also dont think that he is a 'genuine' world champ yet, but, given time he will fight big names and get the chance to become a 'genuine' world champ. He has the skills and power...he just needs to experience at world level.

if khan loses this fight he should retire. but i think he will knck him out within 4. personally i prefer the k. mitchell fight. katsisis can go all nite and dont be suprised if the aussie stops him late on. even money at the bookies. i lke kev but just dont see him handling katsidis power. could be one of the fights of the year though.

DEL G - What retire ??? WTF he is a baby !! at 22 -  if he loses (and he wont) he still can improve and kick on.  What kind of advice is that ???

Have you ever.... Ever.... Ever heard of a 22 year old world champ getting beat and hanging up his gloves, say well f*ck that thats me done I will not top that... nothing more to prove.... ??? (while having the worlds best trainer molding you into a better fighter)

NO ! total b*llox ! If he loses he will be back but improved because he wont take a bad ko from PM.

What if pacman had retired when he lost in his mid/late 20's ??? He would not be the fighter he is now !...Total b*llox he will beat him.... and if he dont he will learn. Judge him as a fighter in 4 year.... not now when he is learning not on the fringe of retirement.

He will be a 2/3 weight wrold champ and be the tommy hearns (massive ko but brittle chin) of this weight for a few years ! I for one look forward to it.

I totally agree that Khan has great skills and a great future ahead i can also see the similarities with Thomas hearns in terms of he's vunrable round the whiskers but very exciting to watch, although he aint got Hearns' pop he has blistering speed and loves to have a tear up which is great for the casual fan. i think the PM fight is right for him at this point in his career as he is only 22/23, but having said that owning a world title means you have got to take on the top challengers otherwise your just a paper champion. Now i'm not saying Khan is a fraud cos he aint, but he has to fight top challengers cos he's a champion, (albeit the diluted WBA version). Personally i think he should have been made to fight Maidana or vacate cos people like Maidana have to come up the hard way and earn their shot at glory, only to be blatently side swiped (for a price) aint right and just shows how boxing really operates. I hope Maidana gets his shot at Khan cos i think Khan will box his ears off all night long and win convincingly as long as he doesn't walk onto a big shot, as he has the tools to mix it with anyone, but to keep giving a champion hand picked apponents or non punching mandatorys and avoiding the dangerous the guys just to keep the ££££'s rolling in is unfair to top challengers and makes a mockery of the ranking system and its conning the general public. If his team want to keep building him then he should vacate his title and let someone else earn a living from it.
Having said that i wish Khan all the best and totally believe in him and hope he never loses another fight. Great news about Khans next fight being screened by ITV as it is just what he needs to take him to the next level, massive exposure on terestrial TV, just like Benn, Eubank and Watson got. But he needs to step up to the plate or vacate. Anyway Amir luve and luck dude.

Well said Wardstar. i too beleieve that khan has got the tools to win more than 1 world title. certainly with freddie in his corner. The Prescott fight was an over confidant AMIR gettin blown away. however i think with Roach in his corner and what he has learned from manny in sparring will do him the world of good. Taking on Maidana would be too risky at the moment. but i think 1 of them could rule the division. hopefully AMIR. when KHANvMAIDANA happens it will be over in 6-7 rounds one way or the other. mallinagi will embaress himself fightin KHAN. HE CANT PUNCH! not a bad jab but that apart I see nothing. KHAN will destroy him within 4 rounds and intrduce himself 2 AMERICA. Then its got to be MAIDANA. Probably b4 the end of the year. Its a 50/50 fight and could be 1 to be remembered. lets hope it happens with no politIcs in the way.P.S. MOSELY WILL T.K.O. FLOYD. U HEARD IT HEAR 1ST!

MY POINT WAS IF HE CANT BEAT THE BROOKLYN BOY THEN HE SHOULD CHUCK IT! PAULIE CANT PUNCH AND HAS BEEN FOUND OUT AT WORLD LEVEL. MY COMMENT WAS A LITTLE TONGUE IN CHEEK. IF A BOXER CANT IMPROVE-EVEN THOUGH HE IS 23. NOT WINNING AGAINST PAULIE????IF U WERE RICHARD SHAEFER WOULD U AS A CEO WANT HIM ON YOUR CARD?? I DONT THINK SO.

WELL SAID REDBRICKS. Dont want the young buck to turn into NAZ then get found out. With F/R as a trainer i think he would kick him out the gym if he got too much of an ego. Still think he will hit p/m harder than he has ever been hit. As you say.... over by the 6th.
