All that "pound for pound" stuff is a load of crap until guys get into the ring. "A" level fighters don't get knocked out in their prime that way, or if they do they come back like Joe Louis. Marvin Hagler, Ray Leonard, Hopkins, Mayweather, Gonzalghe, Chavez; those guys are A level fighters. Hatton does not measure up at all. Tough, game, and popular, yes, but not of the elite. |

Hattan was never an A level fighter, certainly no Joe Gonzalghe, who was the best European fighter in a long, long time (maybe ever). He should fight a mediocre fighter to go out with a win, and enjoy life in retirement. |

You can't rate Kalambay, a guy who was KO'd in one round by Michael Nunn, ahead of Ray Leonard, who would have ripped Kalambay a new ass----. I liked Minter, but too much of a bleeder, and Tony Sibson knocked him out early too. Roldan deserves to be on the list. He had Hagler in trouble until a well placed thumb closed Roldan's eye. |

Joe Frazier had Ali's number, but was himself a rocket that simply burned out quickly. On one of the single most intense nights in boxing history--two undefeated heavyweight champions, Joe Frazier put Ali on his butt in the 15th round. Despite the layoff, Ali had supstantial preparation and was in perfect shape. The second fight is a joke, as the referee allowed Ali to constantly pull Frazier's head dwon from the back of the neck. Try having a 220lb man do that to you for ten seconds and see how you feel. A modern ref. would have taken points off or DQed Ali. Foreman knocked out Joe in a clash of styles, and his career was pretty much over by then. But one thing for sure, if you had young Joe Frazier in your corner in a dream tournament of all the heavyweight champions, you'd be a happy man. |

Worth Youtubing if you never saw them: Matthew Saad Muhammed-Yaqui Lopez Duran-Barkley Foreman-Lyle ****ey-Norton (just kidding) |

If anyone flatly claims any fighter would have beaten any other fighter--Joe Louis vs George Foreman, for example--then I surmise that you are fabulously wealthy. The money ammassed from predicting and betting on present day fights must be staggering. |

The truth is, Frazier beat Ali on their best night--perhaps the greatest night of boxing ever. In the second fight, Ali should have been penalized harshly for grabbing behind the neck, which would have given Frazier the DQ win, or given him the ability to fight inside, by which he would have won anyway. The shame is Larry Holmes came around a bit too late. He would have made things very interesting. |
