Could Pro Boxing Be Heading For The Olympics?

I must say I was horrified to read last week that plans are afoot to possibly introduce professional boxing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I’m all for increasing the profile of pro boxing but in my humble opinion this could prove a massive mistake for a number of reasons.
The International Olympic Committee recently confirmed discussions had taken place with the Amateur Boxing Association. Personally I have always looked forward to watching the Olympic Games, it’s a fantastic sporting spectacle but I have to admit that ever since high profile sports like Tennis was introduced and with it the star players like Roger Federer, etc, the gloss of the Games has somewhat been tarnished for me. I don’t suppose it will be long before Formula 1 is introduced the way things are going!
But seriously, the thought of pro boxing in the Olympics has to be a step too far, yes? In any case we already have an amateur code and it’s a totally different sport from professional boxing. I’m pretty sure those responsible have not thought this through because even if they had for one minute they would quickly realise the concept cannot work.
For example, you would have to seed the boxers and whats to stop current world champions like Manny Pacquiao, Sergio Martinez or Wladimir Klitschko from entering? After all they are pro boxers and citizens of their respective country’s are they not?
I really don’t think this will happen for one minute but if it does, whoever is responsible for policing this had better make sure they get it right.
