By Paul Upham: The first Fenech Fight Night of 2002 will be held at the Le Montage Function Centre in Leichhardt. The card will be seen live around Australia on Fox Sports and will feature Nader Hamdan, Nedal Hussein, Danny Green, Vic Darchinian and Gary St. Claire, while a Solomon Haumono bout is being negotiated. Tickets are available from Billy Hussein on 0414 302754.

Sydney promoter Kieran O’Connor is proceeding with plans to take his successful “Respect” fight series to Jupiters Casino in Queensland. “Respect 6 – Let’s Prove It” will go ahead on March 4 featuring some of Australia’s most exciting fighters with up to nine Australian and regional title fights on the card. Television rights are still currently being negotiated along with all of the match-ups.

Former IBF junior lightweight world champion Barry Michael will be promoting live shows on Fox Sports later in 2002 from his hometown of Melbourne. Michael has been working as a television analyst for Fox Sports in 2001 and is excited about getting back into the promotional arena again.

IBF No.1 light heavyweight Glenn Kelly has been training strongly at his Sydney base camp and is not going all the way to the USA for an easy pay day against Roy Jones Jr. on February 2.

“I’ve never seen Glenn Kelly work so hard,” said Team Fenech assistant trainer Billy Hussein. “Glenn is taking this fight very seriously and is looking to show the world how good he is. He’s eating properly and on weight already. I’m sure that you will see the best performance of his career against Roy.”
