Australian round-up: Taylor vs Holland finally on

July 22, 2001 - By Paul Upham: Australia's two finest welterweights, WBC No.8 Shannan Taylor and WBA No.11 Julian Holland will finally meet on Friday August 17 at the Octagon, Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, headlining Kieran O'Connor's next promotion.

The clash has been four years in the making and will give both fighters the opportunity to settle in the ring who is the best at 147lbs with Holland's Australian title and the vacant Commonwealth crown on the line.

"Shannan is a big, strong welterweight and it will be a good fight. I have to be at my best and get the job done," said Holland, speaking from his Melbourne home. “This fight will tell me where I am at in my career. There is no better welterweight in the country to test myself against. I'm in full training and will be at my best for the fight."

Fenech Fight Night - August 3
The next Fenech Fight Night will be on Friday 3rd August at the Bankstown Bellevue Convention Centre. A big card is planned featuring WBO No.2 flyweight Hussein Hussein, IBF No.1 light heavyweight Glenn Kelly, Marc Bargero, Danny Green, Ian Schaffer and Vic Darchinian in separate bouts with the action televised live around Australia on Fox Sports. Roy Jones Jr-Julio Gonzalez Coverage
Sky Channel has secured exclusive television rights in Australia to Roy Jones Jr's world light heavyweight title defence against Julio Gonzalez from the Staples Center in Los Angeles next weekend. The undercard will also feature world title defences by WBC featherweight champion Erik Morales and WBA welterweight champion Andrew "Six Heads" Lewis. Coverage will commence at 11am Eastern on Sunday 29th July. IBF No.1 light heavyweight Glenn Kelly will join host Mathew Brooks in the Sky Channel studios to preview and review each of the fights.

Fox Sports Secures ShoBox Cards
Fox Sports has secured the Australian television rights to Showtime's first four "ShoBox : The New Generation" boxing cards promoted by Main Events. The first card was held on Saturday afternoon in the USA at Bally's Park Place, Atlantic City with the main event between Leonard Dorin and Martin O'Malley. The first card will be seen on Fox Sports in the next few weeks.
