Australian TV Boxing Schedule : Week 19/01/2010

Tuesday 19th January 2010

8:30am – The Fight, this episode tells the story of race in boxing, and of professional boxing’s two pioneering black champions, Jack Johnson and Joe Louis, and the passions that drove them = BBC Knowledge channel
8:30am – KOTV = Sky Racing
8:30pm – Movie: “Phantom Punch”, Robert Townsend directs Ving Rhames as Sonny Liston, the controversial former world heavyweight boxing champion. From his discovery by a priest while serving time at the Missouri State Penitentiary to the infamous ’Phantom Punch’ by Cassius Clay which effectively ended his career, this story spans the years from 1950 to Liston’s mysterious and untimely death in 1971, sharing Liston’s triumphs and tragedy as his run ins with racism, the mob and the law are examined, and his personal relationships with his wife (Stacey Dash), manager and lover (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras) are revealed. From the lows of poverty and jail to the heights of a world championship, this is a compelling portrait of the man behind the headlines = Showtime Premiere

11:59pm – “Popeye”, ‘Out to Punch’: Popeye’s busy training for his boxing match. But unfortunately, Bluto is around to cause his usual sabotage, and play his practical jokes, anything to stop Popeye = Boomerang channel
