Book Review: “BOX – The Face of Boxing” by Holger Keifel & Thomas Hauser

By Paul Upham: If you are looking for something a little different in a boxing book “BOX – The Face of Boxing” by Holger Keifel and Thomas Hauser may well be exactly what you are looking for. The 198 page hardcover books serves as an amazing tour of the faces of big time boxing from around the world.

Holger Keifel is a talented portrait photographer based in New York. American lawyer Thomas Hauser is the world’s leading boxing writer and author covering the sport today. The combination of the two has resulted in a unique look at the sport of boxing.

Over the last decade, Keifel went about photographing the boxing industry in black & white photos, featuring some of their most memorable physical features. You only have to look at the cover photo of Evander Holyfield and his dented ear, courtesy of Mike Tyson, to realise the subject matter is extremely interesting.

Boxers, managers, promoters, trainers, media and more are featured in the book. The old saying claims a picture tells a thousand words and Hauser’s accurate observations add even more to the product.

“BOX – The Face of Boxing” is the perfect coffee table book delivering the real faces of the sport and is available in book stores worldwide and on-line at
