By Paul Upham: Newly-crowned OPBF light-heavyweight champion Paul Briggs, 14-1 (11), will headline a show in Melbourne on April 19 when he faces kick-boxing “KO King” Arthur Tsakonis at the Melbourne Convention Centre in Australia.
Promoted by the Total Sports Network, the card will also feature popular super-middleweight “King” Sam Soliman, who has been campaigning in the UK during the last two years but made an appearance in Sydney last September when he lost a close points decision to Anthony “The Man” Mundine.

On the undercard, Nick Tetoros takes on New Zealander James Waru, also Mexican Brando De Niro, Kenyan Olympian Peter Kariuki, Melbourne’s Nathan Croucher and Australia’s biggest fighter at 6ft 9ins and weighing 360lbs, known only as “The House of Pain”. Tickets are on sale now and available at Ticketmaster by telephone 131 622.

Promoter Joe Cursio is expecting an explosive night of action for boxing fans. “Arthur Tsakonis has a big reputation in kick-boxing circles and is a big puncher with a good chin. Knowledgable people in Melbourne's kick-boxing scene have big raps on him,” he said.

Briggs last fought on March 4 when he won the vacant OPBF belt by stopping Paul Smallman. Briggs is a former IBF Pan Pacific cruiserweight champion, Australian light-heavyweight champion and also a well respected kick-boxing world champion. There is expected to be a heated and intense rivalry with Tsakonis for this clash.

In other Australian boxing news, Anthony Mundine faces South African Roland Francis on Monday night at the Carrara Sports Centre on the Gold Coast for the vacant PABA super-middleweight title.

The card is available on Main Event Pay-Per-View through Foxtel or Austar and can also be seen at participating Fox Pub and Club Vision outlets.
