Finally, Finding Some Balance

23-Nov-10 10:28
David Haye
By Paul Upham: Finally, we get some balance at this boxing website. For so long, I have been accused of bias. That’s right, around the offices at SecondsOut.com and amongst the people I talk to regularly in the boxing industry they have accused me of being biased for.... David Haye.

In the past of have been accused of overestimating Haye’s ability. I have been accused of pushing his case incorrectly such as here and here and here.

Yes, it’s very nice to get some balance. It seems I rattled the cage last week, many pro-David Haye readers accusing me of being biased against the WBA heavyweight world champion. How refreshing.

The facts are that I have; 1). always welcomed David Haye as a refreshing breath of fresh air that the heavyweight division desperately needed and 2). picked David Haye to knockout Wladimir Klitschko but lose to Vitali Klitschko if those fights ever occur.

Critics can point the finger all they want at my statements. The original and most crucial point is that fights like Haye-Harrison (and Danny Green-Paul Briggs) are bad for boxing.

There are other important boxing industry officials who may well agree.

Interestingly, I note media reports after my original rant that the British Boxing Board of Control is investigating the actions of both Audley Harrison, for alleged lack of effort and David Haye, for allegedly betting on himself to win by third round knockout.

It is possible that both will be fined after all.
