Geale, Zappavigna dominate in victory

31-Oct-10 21:06
By Paul Upham: The call went out for a new era of Australian boxers to step forward and make their make on the international level. Daniel Geale and Lenny Zappavigna answered appropriately in recording dominate wins on Sunday 31 October 2010 at the State Sports Centre in Homebush, NSW.

Daniel Geale was superb in stopping Russian Roman Karmazin inside the twelve round distance in an IBF middleweight world title eliminator.

The “Real Deale” Geale proved himself as one of the best middleweights in the world today. Karmazin came to fight in good physical condition, but Geale’s impressive work rate and highly evolved technical skills never saw the former junior middleweight world champion get into the fight.

A measure of the win was that in his last match earlier in 2010, Karmazin fought a disputed twelve round draw with current IBF middleweight world champion Sebastian Sylvester in Germany. Now Geale gets the chance to win the IBF world title.

Already holding the IBO lightweight world title, Lenny Zappavigna secured a shot at the IBF world title with a stunning stoppage of South Korean Ji-Hoon Kim in only 101 seconds. The punching fury of “Lenny Zappa” was breathtaking.
