Holland looking for December fight

By Paul Upham: Commonwealth welterweight champion Julian Holland is back in training and is looking for a December fight. His badly cut right eye has now healed after his impressive August win over Shannan Taylor in Sydney.
“The eye is great and I am back in training now. Hopefully I will be able to get a fight in December,” said Holland, who is looking at different options for his first defence of the Commonwealth belt.

“I haven’t sat down and made a decision yet. O’Connor Sports have mentioned actually fighting Kevin Kelly here, but I’m a little bit in doubt as to whether he can actually make welterweight, he hasn’t made it for a long time,” added Holland, 26-2-1- (16).

“We are negotiating to see whether we want it. I’d love to get a fight in Melbourne, but I think it is very important for me to fight on Fox Sports or Sky Channel to show Australia what I am, because I have been obsolete for so long, out of the picture basically. It’s only been the last couple of fights that I’ve been on the scene.

“I’m talking to England too, I’d love to get over there and have a go at them. I’d like to have one more fight for the year and defend the Commonwealth title. It’s been unreal to win it. Now I’ve got to defend it, that is what a champion is all about.”

Now at No.8 in the latest WBC ratings, 28 year-old Holland is determined to continue to work his way up to the elusive world title shot.

“It’s a great honour being in the top ten and I’ve worked hard for that. I’ve worked hard for what I achieved in my last fight. It’s only the start. I feel that I’m getting stronger, I’m punching harder and I’m thinking more in fights and getting more confident,” said Holland.
