Roy Jones Jr shows his moves
By Paul Upham: Former pound for pound leader Roy Jones Jr continued the promotion for his next fight against Danny Green in Australia with an outdoor appearance and boxing training session in busy Martin Place, Sydney City on Thursday morning October 1.
“I love the Sydney crowd and I’m going to put on a show for you all when I come back,” Jones told those in attendance. “I will have my show ready to go.”
40 year-old Jones thrilled a large crowd of office workers and shoppers with a ring workout. He then happily posed for photographs and signed autographs for thirty minutes.
Jones and IBO cruiserweight title holder Green will battle over twelve rounds at the Acer Arena in Homebush, Sydney on December 2.
“I have to be aware of Danny Green,” Jones said. “A great power puncher. A big heart. I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do.”
Former undisputed junior welterweight Kostya Tszyu was also in attendance to visit his old friend Jones Jr.
Another surprise guest was Australian light heavyweight Glen “Kunga” Kelly, who Jones Jr famously knocked out, after starting with his hands behind his back, in February 2002. The two former foes embraced warmly and Jones Jr signed the pair of gloves that Kelly had worn in their light heavyweight world title fight at the American Airlines Arena in Miami.
