Ramirez vs. Katsidis
|

By Paul Upham: Exciting Australian slugger Michael Katsidis faces Argentine Angel Ramirez on Saturday night at the Cebu Coliseum in Cebu City, Philippines. Both boxers made weight at Friday’s official weigh-in, with the fight being held over twelve rounds for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title.
28 year-old Katsidis 23-2 (20) weighed in at 135lbs.
31 year-old Ramirez 19-4-2 (8) hit the scales at 134lbs.
Katsidis had two losses in 2008 in major fights in the USA against Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz. He is looking to regain momentum with a good win against Ramirez, before possibly facing former IBF world champion Julio Diaz in April.
“I haven’t lost any confidence out of those two losses,” Katsidis told the media, “and if anything, they’ve only made me a better fighter.”
Gates will open at 4pm local time, while the first bout takes place at 5pm.
The card will be televised in the Philippines by Studio 23 starting at 9pm, with a replay on ABS-CBN at 9am on Sunday.
In Australia, the event is available live on Main Event Pay-Per-View from 9pm Australian Eastern Standard Time.
