Kostya + Zab = Americain

By Paul Upham: It seems the magic memories of the Zab Judah-Kostya Tszyu boxing match from 3 November 2001 linger on. After my story Monday on a new way to pick the winner of the Melbourne Cup horse race, one of the suggested picks Americain charged home to win on Tuesday.
I received plenty of comment and feedback on ”Picking a Melbourne Cup winner with Tszyu vs. Judah”. Some laughed. Some thought it was fun tale. Others thought I was crazy. One reader even labelled it the worst boxing story ever written.
But regardless of the science surrounding it, the story produced a winner!
The Tszyu-Judah theory for picking the winner of the Melbourne Cup has now produced a 1st, 2nd and 1st in consecutive years.
