Sonny Bill Williams Makes Pro Debut on Mundine-Geale Undercard

By Paul Upham: Former Bulldogs rugby league player Sonny Bill Williams arrived back in Australia on Thursday morning. Now playing rugby union in France, Williams will make his professional boxing debut on the Anthony Mundine-Daniel Geale IBO middleweight world title undercard on Wednesday May 27 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Queensland.

23 year-old Williams will fight at heavyweight over four rounds against New Zealand farmer Gary “Chippie” Gurr.

Williams told Danny Weidler on Channel 9’s The Footy Show on Thursday night that he has been training six weeks for this fight.

“I’m really keen to get out there and give it to this bloke,” he said.

Fellow debutant Gurr told the Channel 9 network, “I’ll beat him (Williams) and Mundine in the same night!”

* The Mundine-Geale promotion will be televised live in Australia on Wednesday May 27 at the special time of 6:30pm AEST on Main Event Pay-Per-View and at participating Fox Sports Pub & Club venues.
