Talipeau-Taylor is an old fashioned grudge match with modern day trash talk

By Paul Upham in Darling Harbour: Junior Talipeau and Shannan Taylor will engage in an old fashioned grudge match over eight rounds at super middleweight on Sunday 31 October 2010 at the State Sports Centre in Homebush, Sydney. But when the media asked the exact origin of their feud, the battle took on a more current format. Allegedly, it all began on Facebook.

“You, (pointing at Talipeau),” said Taylor, “wrote on my Mrs’ Facebook (page) that I was a gronk or a wanker or something. Always has been. If you want to fight me in the street, ask Jeff Fenech when he pulled me off someone in the street. It took four guys to get me off.”

One of the main support bouts to the Daniel Geale-Roman Karmazin “Judgement Day” IBF world title eliminator, Talipeau and Taylor’s meeting at their press conference at the Cargo Bar on Wednesday 27 October in Sydney was passionate and fiery.

“I’m stepping in against Shannan Taylor and come Sunday, I’m ready to finish him off,” predicted Talipeau. “I’m going to do the people of Australia a favour. I’m going to knock him out. I’m going to stop him and I hope he enjoys his retirement.”

“Junior Talipeau is not a liked man and he is trying to be somebody in boxing,” said Taylor in reply. “Take a nice approach with a mean attitude. Junior has taken this bad boy approach and it doesn’t work.”

At this point, it turned simply into a verbal slugging match between the two boxers.

26 year-old Talipeau 16-1-1 (5): “There is no bad boy. The only bad boy is you. You’re the bad boy.”

38 year-old Taylor 50-8-3 (36): “Do you want to fight me in the street? What a wanker you are.”

Talipeau: “I’m not going to be like you. That’s what you do. You’re the street fighter.”

Taylor: “A long time ago buddy. Who the fuck are you to talk to me like this? I’ve fought the best in the world and I’ve knocked out six former world champions and I haven’t dodged anyone and I ain’t dodging you. I have trained like a machine for this fight. I am stronger than you. I am faster than you.”

Talipeau: “You are not faster than me.”

Taylor: “We’ll see Sunday. Bring it! Just bring your best game, because I want to knock out the best Junior Talipeau there is.”

“Judgement Day” is promoted by Grange Global Promotions.

Tickets are on sale at www.TicketDirect.com.au and www.Grangeosb.com.au or by calling +61 2 46 47 9941.
