By Paul Upham: Boxer-promoter Ryan Waters defends his WBO Oriental junior middleweight title against Shannon McMahon on Friday night July 30 at Cronulla Sutherland Leagues Club in Sydney, NSW, headlining his own Left Hook Promotions card.
Despite his recent success inside and outside the ring, 31 year-old Waters 15-2-1 (9) still finds it extremely demanding headlining and promoting on his own card.
“It never gets in any easier, promoting and fighting on the same show,” Waters told SecondsOut. “We have the template on how to make it work, but you still have to get out there and sell the show. There are a lot of great people who support us, which makes it much easier.”
32 year-old McMahon 16-3-1 (6) is originally from Melbourne and won regional and state titles in his last two fights.
“Training has been great the last four weeks,” said Waters. “I have no injuries at all, which is a bonus and I am feeling great. This is going to be a great fight with McMahon.”
Putting on his promoter’s hat, Waters is pleased that 25 year-old local rising star Michael Bolling 7-0 (6) will face William Hadlow at super middleweight in the main support.
“Michael looked great in his last fight televised on Superboxer,” said Waters. “There is something special about him. He is only going to get better and better.”
There will be five amateur fights on the card prior to the three professional contests.
General admission tickets are available at the door for $50.
