Will Audley Harrison be proven right?
12-Nov-10 23:57

By Paul Upham: Plenty of times after the Olympic boxing gold medallist turned professional he proclaimed “I will be world champion one day”. After his back to back losses to Danny Williams and Dominick Guinn, most people doubted Audley Harrison’s ability to ever reach the top.
Subsequent defeats to Michael Sprott and Marti Rogan prompted some boxing fans to lament his unfulfilled talent. Others thought he was simply overrated and delusional.
But Harrison’s Prizefighter Tournament win in 2009 and follow-up twelve round stoppage of Michael Sprott on 9 April, now sees him with a shot against David Haye on Saturday night in Manchester.
Can Audley win? Highly unlikely, but if he can find a way to win the WBA heavyweight world title, prepare yourself for an extended run of “I told you so” from the 39 year-old southpaw from London.
For fans who don’t consider themselves partial to Harrison’s verbal rants, it could be a painful few weeks ahead if he pulls out a win.
