Scandinavian Boxing News: Kessler/Hartwig and More

By Teddy Stenmark: According to Danish press reports Mogens Palle (Mikkel Kessler’s promoter) still, had not received the contract for the Danilo Haussler fight in Oldenburg, Germany on October 25th.

A bit late I would say, if these reports are accurate. I haven’t heard or read the German’s side of the story yet. In all fairness one should point out the fact that Palle “hassled “ or should I say, pointed out a couple of faults in the original agreement regarding Kessler’s purse ( tax-wise). Maybe that is the cause of the delay. I don’t really know, but it’s always a constant struggle to put together fights between two big promoters. It’s the way it is I guess, and I suppose the way it always will be. This business is driven by money, ambitions and greed. Quite frankly I am not surprised.

Speaking of Mikkel, he told the media recently after sparring with fellow Dane, Evans Ashira ( originally from Kenya, Africa) and American, Ross Thompson, that he is in the shape of his life for this upcoming fight against, Haussler, “ I have sparred four rounds each with these two guys, and I still feel as fresh as can be, that has never happened before”

Former National team swimmer and boxing novice, Mikaela Laurén has been granted a professional boxing license by the Swedish pro boxing Commission. She will probably have her debut on a card in Norköping Sweden on November 21st.

Two Swedish boxers will see action in late October, Karlo Tabagua ( junior welter) gets a six rounder in Rembertow, Poland on the 26th, and Stockholm based welterweight, Hassan Saku ( 9-6, 8 KO) who’d been hit by a real down period in 2008 ( four fights – four losses) looks to redeem himself in Tallinn, Estonia on the 25th. Saku is tentatively booked to face 25-year old Latvian, Ruslans Poenishevs (1-0-1, 1 KO).

The president of the Swedish boxing Federation ( SBF) , Bettan Andersson has been re-elected for another period, Andersson one of very few women who heads a national boxing federation, and, apparently she does a good enough job to keep the position.

Hot Swedish prospect, Daniel Hartwig (junior middle/welterweight) has been training with former WBO middleweight champion, Armand Krajnc as preparations for his participation at the card in Norrköping, Sweden, November 21sth. Krajnc, who himself doesn’t rule out a comeback, but has nothing in sight at the moment and is pretty content with running his Training Centre located in Ystad, which is in the southern parts of Sweden, and naturally located not long from where Armand lives at the moment. He ( Krajnc) has also gone public with his ambitions to start up a new professional stable in order to get use of his old contacts in, for instance, Germany and other parts of Europe.

Another little “nugget” has been added to the Amin Asikainen- Khoren Gevor –card set for Hartwall arena in Helsinki, Finland November 28 as undefeated Russian junior welterweight, Dennis Shafikov (16-0) takes on former WBA lightweight champion, Raul Balbi of Argentina. Balbi slightly older at 35 (compared to Shafikovs 23) has tons of experience and will be a giant step up in class for the aspiring Russian.
