SecondsOut Pound For Pound Rankings For February

By Matthew Hurley: The Secondsout pound for pound list for February remains unchanged from the month of January. However, there were two moves of significance in the sport that could alter the rankings in the coming months.

Carl Froch, who reentered last month relinquished his IBF super middleweight belt and rumblings of his impending retirement seem to be getting louder. On the other hand, the feeling here is Froch is looking for one final big fight, possibly in Las Vegas. Until he announces his intentions, Carl remains at number ten for his stellar body of work over the last several years. As the late actor John Houseman used to say, “He’s earned it.”

The other announcement is the eventual return to the ring of super middleweight belt holder Andre Ward. Ward was as high on the list as number two, behind Floyd Mayweather Jr., before a long standing promotional dispute with his late and lamented promoter Dan Goossen. Reports were that both men were coming to terms before Goossen passed away from liver cancer. Ward has not fought since December of 2013 and was dropped from the rankings entirely until he resumes his career.

He has now signed with the promotional company headed by Rap mogul Jay Z, Roc Nation. He intends to come back, possibly in Oakland, sooner rather than later. He will reenter our rankings pending that upcoming bout, as yet unsigned, and his position will reflect his performance.

The Secondsout pound for pound rankings for February is as follows.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. 47-0-0-(26)

Manny Pacquiao 57-5-2-(38)

Wladimir Klitschko 63-3-0-(53)

Gennady Golovkin 31-0-0-(28)

Guillermo Rigendeaux 14-0-0-(9)

Timothy Bradley 31-1-0-(12)

Juan Manuel Marquez 56-7-1-(40)

Roman Gonzalez 40-0-0-(34)

Sergey Kovalev 26-0-1-(23)

Carl Froch 33-2-0-(24)
