Dear Aiden
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Steve Bunce Boxing Hour.
As you know Setanta decided to broadcast a significant amount of boxing on their channel, including more than 40 live shows a year. With that commitment to the sport it’s not surprising that they had a regular magazine show to complement their output.
Five has a limited amount of boxing, generally the ESPN Friday Night Fights played in out Late Night Sports spot. We don’t, therefore have enough of a commitment to commission a boxing show of this type.
It’s worth pointing out that Setanta had a huge amount of airtime to fill on their dedicated sports channels whereas on a terrestrial entertainment channel there are many other programmes competing for a place in the schedule. Although you clearly have a strong commitment to the show and may disagree we don’t believe it would be popular enough to displace other programming and that is how we have to make commissioning decisions.
We are sure Steve’s talents won’t be lost to broadcasting but we don’t envisage this show coming to Five in the near future.
Nevertheless, your comments have been logged in our Viewer Enquiries Report. This is circulated throughout Five and will be seen by all relevant Five personnel.
If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your interest in Five.
Yours sincerely
Steven

Not a really positive reply, considering the amount of nonsense that is shown on that channel.
