Kahn Clary Sharp in AC

Toka Kahn Clary, 125 ½, Providence, 25-1 (17), won a well-earned unanimous decision from persistent Emmanuel Dominguez, 125, Aguascalientes, MX, 22-7-2 (14), at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Convention Hall. The show was promoted by Evander Holyfield (The Real Deal Boxing) and MIS Downing Prom’ns. The contest was well fought and well paced with steady action, but not a lot of wide open fireworks. Nearly every round followed a pattern. The tall Mexican came out aggressively stalking and applying pressure, and would forge an early lead. Then the more skilled southpaw Kahn Clary would come alive, fire back in barrages with quicker hands, repay Emmanuel and then forge ahead to eventually take the round. The first two rounds were cautious, but Kahn Clary put across a big straight right lead down the pike to rock Dominguez back on his heels just as the bell rang. That signaled a step up in intensity for the next round, with rugged action at close range. First Dominguez seized the initiative, then Kahn Clary slipped into gear with jolting shots to regain the round. In the fifth, Khan Clary gained a little more room with movement and placed his punches well.

But in the sixth, action moved back to close range and heated up with solid exchanging, Toka getting the better of it with lefts. The seventh remained at heated action, the exchanges see-sawing but the better hands of Kahn Clary always prevailing. The eighth was Toka’s last good round, an eruption in the closing moments with Toka getting room for long punches stealing the round. Finally in the last two, Emmanuel was able to forge in and keep the pressure without Kahn Clary flaring up and taking it back. It was too little too late for the game Mexican, as Toka took the unanimous decision clearly, by scores of 97-93 and 98-92 twice.
