By Ryan Waugh: Kenny Anderson will look to banish memories of his agonising defeat to George ‘The Saint’ Groves when he goes to war with the current British & Commonwealth champion at the Wembley Arena on March 16.
The 29-year-old Edinburgh man, who has a record of,16-1 (11), has plenty to prove as he looks to avenge his only career loss to date. The Scot who still harbours ambitions of claiming British and Commonwealth glory, knows that the Wembley showdown could be a watershed in his career.
Anderson, 29, dismantled Paul Morby in his last outing and had Lee Duncan crashing out of the ropes before that. This is certainly a man who is hungry, capable and determined to avenge the misery of that Manchester evening in November, 2010.
“I’ve improved massively since our last fight. I have obviously seen his fights and watched what he has done-he has performed well, but this is something that I have been preparing for, the whole of my life,” said Anderson.
“If I don’t get past this fight, I’m not going to be anywhere. The difference this time is that I’m a different animal to what I was in 2010 and I feel that I am better than him.
“I don’t think he will have been particularly happy with his last performance against me-it was a pretty tight fight, it wasn’t particularly one sided. To me, the fight was stopped while I was on my feet, we both had the heart in that fight.
“What happened in our last bout is a good motivational tool for me in the gym. I am just so glad that I have another chance to be able to condemn what people have said that I have done, rather than what I could have done.”
The Scot, who has been based in Ribble Valley, Clitheroe for the last couple of years, is training harder than ever for the biggest test of his professional career and is sacrificing going without seeing his family for long spells to fulfil a life time ambition.
