Arreola Looks To Make History Saturday Against Stiverne  

By Andrew Rivera: This Saturday night on the campus of the University of Southern California, Chris Arreola will get the opportunity to avenge a loss he suffered at the hands of Bermane Stiverne in September, 2013, but this time the vacant WBC Heavyweight title is at stake.

Stiverne dropped Arreola and went to secure a unanimous decision. This time Arreola plans to make adjustments and fight his fight.

"When I looked back at the fight and then Henry (trainer) told me I threw maybe 30 punches a round that’s not me, I plan to get busy and throw punches in bunches in this fight." says Arreola

Prior to getting his second shot at a version of the world title, Arreola demolished former football player Seth Mitchell in brutal fashion, a fight which Arreola said if he could not beat Mitchell he shouldn’t be boxing anymore.

" I know I’d beat Mitchell, he was a pretender not a contender, no football player could come in and beat me in boxing; just because he couldn’t make it in football don’t come to my sport and think you can win, but if he won I’d have left boxing."

In facing Stiverne, Arreola feels that he is motivated to make history and become the first Mexican-American to capture one of the major belts in boxing, the WBC belt which has held by greats such as Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson.

In order to make history Arreola will have to get past Stiverne, who looked good in defeating Arreola. In Stiverne, Arreola knew he was in for a tough night knowing his amateur background but thinks this time will be different, even training has been far more intensive this time around.

Trainer Henry Ramirez and Arreola (36-3) moved training camp to San Diego, California in order for Arreola to maintain focus and stay away from distractions that may side track Arreola.

"When I’m home and have the car keys I’m the one who gets distracted when headed to the gym, it’s an excuse to stop and go to the store, to put air in the tire, anything. With us in San Diego, if I say I need to go to Walmart, Henry says I’ll drive he’s the only one with keys." says Arreola. "Camp is great I’m at weight and ready to capture history"

If Arreola is to make boxing history Saturday, he will be doing it at a place he is fond of, the campus of USC where Arreola as a kid wanted to play football and is a huge Trojan fan.

"Hell yes I’m looking forward to fighting where I use to go. I was a kid wanting to play football, but most important I’m happy we finally are able to fight and to get this title. I will make history and I’ll be proud to say I’m the first ever Mexican-American to win the heavyweight title, it will be a dream come true, something I’ve been wanting since I started fighting at 7 years old."
