Bob Arum, the promoter of Manny Pacquiao, has said that he is prepared to pay a career highest purse to Juan Manuel Marquez to face ‘Pac Man’ a fifth time.
Marquez is said to have picked up $6 million after taking out Pacquiao last December and Arun has promised he will pick a little more cash should they meet in the ring again.
Speaking to Ring tv Arum said: "Marquez made his career-high pay day the last time, and he knocked out Pacquiao, so he’s not going to get less than he got the last time."
At age 39 Marquez is yet to decide if he will continue fighting again, circulating rumours that he is holding out for a bigger payday but Arum is not convinced.
"That’s not a negotiating ploy,” said Arum.” If you’re Marquez, and he’s a real proud guy who, unlike a lot of fighters, saved his money. So, he’s got a university degree in accounting.”
Earlier this week it was reported that Marquez had been offered $15 million by a ‘rich Prince’ to fight South African boxer Zolani Marali in Dubai. That, however does not seem viable as Marquez is said to be committed to a promotional deal with Arum’s Top Rank and Zanfer Promotions.
