Promoter Bob Arum insists that despite comments made by Manny Pacquiao’s lawyer about Pacman fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr this year, are incorrect.
In an interview with manilastandardtoday.com Arum revealed a fight between the two best pound for pound boxers is top of his agenda but not until 2013.
“I want to explore everything, including a fight with Mayweather,” Arum insisted.
“But obviously, I don’t think that Mayweather will be prepared to fight this year, because it looks like he will be in prison for at least one or two more months. So I think that if the Mayweather fight happens, it would probably happen sometime next year.
“I don’t think anybody on Mayweather’s side could commit him now for a fight because you don’t understand how debilitating it is living in prison, eating that kind of food.”
Regarding a possible opponent for Pacquiao in November Arum was not so forthcoming, saying: “I just don’t know. I don’t want to jump the gun on him.”
No opponent has yet been officially considered but you can be that both Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez are on the shortlist.
