Light welterweight world champion Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia conducted a media workout on Wednesday the DGG Boxing gym in Philadelphia in preparation for his latest title defence against tough Argentine challenger Lucas Matthysse in Las Vegas on September 14.
Garcia defends his title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Saul Alvarez WBC light middleweight title pay per view event, broadcast on Showtime.
Speaking to the assembled media Garcia said: “I’m at home. This is my home gym. I love it. I was born for this. I was born to perform on a high level. It’s just another day, another fight to me. He (Matthysse) is just a regular fighter to me.
“I’ve seen a lot of strong fighters knocking guys out. Just power doesn’t win you fights. He fought two people who hit him back and he lost. Everybody else was scared and got knocked out. I’m not going to change my whole game plan. I’m going to be myself. I don’t run, but I’m going to be smart. I’m not going to give him nothing easy. He’s going to have to earn it. Take his power away. Make him miss.”
