"Mack the Knife" Macklin’s thoughts on Golovkin: "He’s looked real impressive in his last several fights, but most of the guys he’s been walking through have been 154 pounders. I’m a bigger and stronger guy. He hasn’t really beaten anyone of any note. I know how good of a fighter that he is. He’ll be facing a guy that will hit back just as hard as he hits."
Golovkin on the chances of switching styles: "I’m a regular person. I don’t think I’ll have to change. He’s a great boxer and very strong. Should be a great fight."
Macklin on the media’s tendencies to overlook him: "That’s the way it is. I can’t do anything about it. I’ll just come prepared."
On bringing a world title back to his home of Birmingham, UK: "There’s been some great fighters from here over the years. I’d be very honored. It would be brilliant to become a world champion."
On possible issues of stamina: "I’d actually say it’s one of my stronger points. If you look at the fight with (Felix) Sturm, then you’ll see that I threw close to 1,100 punches. I feel much better for this fight than I did for the Sergio (Martinez) fight."
Gennady’s thoughts on American fight fans: "Everyone here has been great. My style is good for American fans."
Matthew’s early predictions and preparation: "There’s a lot of ways this fight could go. It could be a tactical twelve round fight or it could also be a savage Hagler/Hearns war. I don’t sit down much to watch video. It’s too easy to overanalyze what you see, so I don’t spend hours and hours watching. I may look a bit as the fight nears, but that’s about it."
There were no closing statements offered by either fighter.
