Former multi weight world champion Ricky Hatton could be on a collision course to face fellow Manchester native Tyson Fury.
Although Fury is scheduled to rematch Dereck Chisora in a multi million pound showdown this Summer, the 25 year from Wilmslow, has reportedly targeted the Ricky Hatton trained Australian Lucas Browne.
Hatton would like nothing more than to support the unbeaten Fury’s journey towards the world heavyweight championship but he has trained and promoted Lucas on and off for a few years and must put his own fighter first should the pair ever face each other in the ring.
“If he(Browne) fights Tyson I could coach him,” Hatton told the Manchester Evening News. “Whenever he’s fought over here I’ve coached him. Not for a full training camp, but for four weeks or so before the fight. It’s not a case of me coaching him if he fights Tyson, I’ve been working with him for two years.”
Hatton added: “There is a lot of talk about Lucas fighting Tyson. Both are highly ranked.
“As a former fighter and a promoter it would be selfish of me to stand in the way. The winner would probably fight for the title. If I had the choice I would rather they didn’t fight each other. I’m a proud Mancunian and would be so proud if a Manchester fighter won the world title.
“The thought of fighting Tyson isn’t something I would be too comfortable with. But if it comes off, who am I to stand in the way?
Browne is ranked 11th by the WBC, while Fury is ranked No.8.
