Hatton Wages War On Van Heerden

Matthew Hatton has promised to take the fight to Chris van Heerden in Johannesburg, South Africa on March 2 when he challenges for the IBO welterweight title.

"Chris likes to come forward and I don’t take a backward step," Hatton said before leaving Manchester.

"I do believe I can push Chris on to the back foot where he doesn’t like to be. We could have this fight in a telephone box."

Hatton has fought for a version of the world title on two previous occasions. Hatton has no complaints about losing via 12 round decision to Saul Alavrez for the vacant WBC light middleweight crown in 2011 but he strongly disputes being held to a 12 round draw against Lovemore Ndou for the IBO welterweight crown two years earlier.

"That was a terrible decision in my eyes," he said. "The one thing that’s eluded me has been that world title. Against Lovemore I should have won that decision. This is another opportunity. it makes me even more determined to succeed."

Hatton added; "Me (sic) boxing skills are better(than Van Heerden). From a technical point of view I do see a lot of mistakes. I don’t think he’s faced the level of opposition I have.

"He has reasonable power, but I don’t think he has the power to stop me."
