By Derek Gionta at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas: Sergey "The Krusher" Kovalev and Andre "SOG" Ward each tipped the scales at 175 lbs in anticipation of their light heavyweight showdown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday night (11/19). At stake will be Kovalev’s three title belts and a potential seat on the "Pound for Pound" throne.
The two undefeated light heavyweights were all business and kept it simple in their brief interviews following the stare down.
"You will all be disappointed tomorrow night," stated Kovalev as he addressed the pro-Ward crowd. "I will knock him out."
Ward has other plans but as always, opted not to reveal them to his Russian foe. "I will not leave Las Vegas without those belts, " Ward clearly stated as the crowd showed their appreciation for the Oakland, California native and former Olympic Gold medalist.
A few notable boxing figures shared their thoughts:
Larry Merchant: "I like them both."
Roy Jones Jr: "It’s a pick-em fight."
Teddy Atlas: "I like Ward."
Both fighters have their supporters and naysayers going into this fight. Media members seem to be 50/50 on their predictions. Most say, "If it goes the distance, Ward will win. If there’s a knockout, it will probably be Kovalev."
Ward is the current betting favorite but for the first time in years, enters the fight as the challenger.
