McDermott Must Seize His Chance

By Ryan Waugh: Big Bad John McDermott will pit his wits against David Price next Saturday for the British heavyweight title eliminator and knows defeat will all but end his chances of future success.

The 31-year-old orthodox boxer has a decent professional record of 26-7 (17) but is currently finding the going tough after losing four of his last five bouts against Tyson fury and Danny Williams.

With the Sky Sports cameras covering the bout, this is a golden opportunity for the forgotten man of British heavyweight boxing to show he still has something to offer the sport after some very unlucky decisions in recent years against Williams and current Commonwealth and British champion, Fury.

His promoter Frank Maloney reckons that McDermott is one of the unluckiest boxers he has ever met and states that he was totally robbed in his 2010 bout with Fury.

McDermott is more than ready to give his all in a fight that is one of the most important of his career and said: “I know it’s my last shot, I have the self belief to win this fight although it could well be my last chance and I have to give it everything that I have.

“David is a tremendous fighter and has the potential to go far but equally this is a fight I have to perform in.”
