Its Official Former three weight world champion and future Hall of Famer Shane Mosley will square off with Australian Anthony Mundine in a pay per view event at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia on October 23.
Promoter Vlad Warton of Millennium Events made the announcement at a press conference on Friday, stating: “Six months ago I came up with this idea for a possible mega event for Australia and I thought of bringing Sugar Shane Mosley to Australia and I thought it would make a great matchup for Australia’s Anthony Mundine It will be a historical event for Australian boxing.”
“This event is great for Australian boxing and boxing period to have such a legend Sugar Shane to take on me in my hometown,” Mundine, 44-2-(26) said. “His legacy speaks for itself. He is a gentleman and I have the upmost respect for him but at the end of the day this is a business and we are here to win! He wants to win and knock my block off! I want to knock his block off! I am looking forward to the fight!
“I want to prove to the world and myself that I am cut in the same floor as Mosley. It is a great opportunity to be in the ring with a living legend,” Mundine added:.
Mundine, who dropped a 12 round decision to fellow Australian Daniel Geale back in January, sees the Mosley fight as stepping stone to another crack at the world middleweight title.
“This is the most important fight of my career thus far! For me its kill or be killed,” said Mundine. “To beat someone of Shane’s caliber, a future Hall of Famer, a living legend, will put me in the spotlight and open the door for another shot at a world title. I want to prove to the world, especially the American people, that I am cut from the same cloth as these guys!”
“He is an explosive fighter with good power, speed, and footwork but I truly believe in my skills. He is a legend and he has proven his legacy but I am after my legacy and I will prove to him that I am too much.
Mosley, 47-8-1-(39),is reportedly picking up $1 million to travel half way round the world but he insists that it is not just the money he is fighting: “It’s going to be a great fight with a lot of fireworks,” said Mosley. “I am coming to fight, not to go pick up a paycheck. I am going to win and then fight the next guy at welterweight whoever it is for a world title. I am not playing around with nobody!”
The Mundine Vs Mosley fight will be fought at 154lbs for the WBA Intercontinental title. Millennium Events promote the fight in association with Golden Boy Promotions.
