If anyone was wondering why former IBF light-welterweight champion Lovemore Ndou did not fight at the Melbourne Pavilion, Flemington, Victoria, Australia on Friday the reason was he Ko’s by food poisoning.

The 40 year-old from Sydney contacted SecondsOut to say: “ My fight got cancelled in the last minute after I picked up a virus due to food poisoning. Both my opponent and I made the weight. I then had dinner at this Italian restaurant.

“At about 2am the night before the fight I started vomiting really bad. The next thing I had diarrhea and sweating profusely but at the same time shivering. I also started having body aches. The hotel staff ended up calling an ambulance for me and I got admitted at St. Vincent Hospital in Melbourne. I was then released from hospital a few hours before fight time but the doctors advised me not to go ahead with the fight.

“For the first time in my whole career I decided to do the right thing and pulled out of the fight. Those who know me pretty well know that I’m the kinda guy who would fight with one arm or one leg if I had to but the fight was just not worth the risk. Everything happens for a reason and I believe there is a good reason why the fight fell through. I have said it before and will say it again

"I’m just clay in the hands of the Potter." God moulds and shapes my life every day. Hence I take things the way they come and will never question God.”
