Pound for pound boxing champ Manny Pacquiao has used disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong as a perfect example as to why he has never used drugs and never will.
The sports legend was stripped of his seven Tour de France victories and banned for life last month after the United States Anti-Doping Agency found he used performance-enhancing drugs. The ban also saw Armstrong stripped of various lucrative sponsorship .
"When I think about (Armstrong) . . . that is why I never have used drugs like steroids for my career,’’ Pacquiao tells USA Today Sports. "Why use illegal drugs — steroids — and ruin your name? You can’t be proud if you are using performance-enhancing (substances) when you’re on top. It’s kind of cheating the people and your opponent. You can be successful without using. If you use, you don’t believe 100% in yourself.’’
The Filipino boxing legend fights next on December 8 in Las Vegas when he faces Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time.
