Svensson Teams Up With Hammer

Klara Svensson (16-1, 5 KOs) has teamed up with Christina Hammer ahead of her grudge match with Mikaela Lauren (27-3, 12 KOs) on September 10 at the Hovet in Stockholm.

The 28 year-old, who is moving up to welterweight to meet Laurén for the interim WBC World title, has travelled to Germany to train with the WBO World Middleweight Champion at her Dortmund gym.

Here the ‘Swedish Princess’ will gain quality sparring at a higher weight class, and perhaps pick up some pointers on how to defeat Laurén from Hammer, who successfully defended her WBO title with a unanimous points decision over the Stockholm fighter in July 2013 at the Energie Verbund-Arena in Dresden.

‘’It’s great sparring with Christina,’’ said Svensson. ‘’She is the WBO World Champion and has an undefeated record. It feels good to know that I’m comfortable sparring someone with her ability, size and weight. On top of that, she’s a really cool girl, so it’s nice to hang out with a fellow female fighter.

‘’I have been following her career for a long time and I have a lot of respect for her. Since she has already fought and beat Mikaela I thought it would be good idea to come to here to her gym for a training camp.

‘’The rounds I have been getting with Christina are the perfect preparation for this fight. I get to practice my footwork, controlling the pace and boxing smart. I haven’t asked her for any tips on how to beat Mikaela, yet. I have my own plan, so I think I’ll stick to that.’’

Aside from her stay in Dortmund, Svensson has been completing the majority of her training in Copenhagen, working with former two-weight World Champion Joey Gamache. The Malmo-boxer says she couldn’t be happier with the work they have been doing.

‘’Everything is coming together perfectly,’’ she says. ‘’I couldn’t be happier. I feel stronger and more explosive than ever. I already have over seventy rounds of quality sparring under my belt with little less than a month left, and since I don’t have to diet for this weight category, I’m able to reload with energy after each session. September 10 is going to be the Svenshow!’’
