American heavyweight Tony Thompson has hit out at critics and fans who believe his win over David Price was a fluke.
The Washington DC southpaw stopped Price (15-1) inside two rounds back in February and has arrived in Britain for their rematch at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday 6th July.
Double world heavyweight title challenger Thompson (37-3) fumed: “People who think I was lucky in our first fight know s**t about fighting.
"People want to make excuses about why people aren’t successful, but people who tell David that aren’t doing him any favours because I am a bad motherf***er and I am going to prove that.
"I have lost three times - twice against Wladimir Klitschko and I think people forget that.
"That pi***s me off. Who has beaten Wladimir in ten years? Nobody. Who has test Wladimir the most in ten years? Me.”
Thompson, 41, weighed a career heaviest 18st 10lb for their first meeting but looked in fantastic condition when he landed on Thursday.
He added: “Anybody can get knocked out in the heavyweight division and I don’t want to say David will be overly cautious.
"But, I can see him changing the game plan where he is going to box a little more, and use his God given abilities.
"He may count on my age factor and thinking I am still a little slow and out of shape.
"We have trained to walk straight to David and beat him up. We’ve also trained where he will be aggressive and we can capitalise on his mistakes.”
On the undercard Bristol’s Darren Hamilton (13-2) risks his British light-welterweight crown against Adil Anwar (19-1) on the same bill.
local boxer Kevin Satchell (10-0) defends his British flyweight championship against Motherwell’s Iain Butcher (8-0).
