May 8, 2001 – South Africa: By Leonard Neill: Sam Satz - 74-year-old publisher of South Africa's longest surviving sports magazine, Boxing World - died in Cape Town during the weekend after a series of heart attacks. Satz took over the magazine when it hit financial problems in its second year of existence after being founded in 1977. Boxing World has been edited throughout its lifespan by Bert Blewett. I was a co-starter with Bert and served as Associate Editor for years - and now serve as a monthly columnist and occasional contributor. The magazine has been recognised as the official publisher of the South African Boxing Commission's ratings, although it has no official ties with the commission. It has also been host to the annual National Boxing Awards function in conjunction with sponsors King Food Corporation.
