Joyce or Gorman next for Daniel Dubois after exciting destruction of Richard Lartey

July 13 should be the first date with destiny for Daniel Dubois. After despatching a lively Richard Lartey in four exciting rounds at Wembley Arena last night, Dubois should vie for the vacant British heavyweight title on the aforementioned date at the O2, with either Joe Joyce or, more likely, Nathan Gorman, in the opposite corner.

Dubois did not have it all his own way against a defiant Ghanaian opponent, 14-2 (11), who struggled with visa issues to get to the UK but tried to make the most of his chance once he arrived. The 21-year-old London prospect, now 11-0 (10), was happy to stand and trade but may be wise to pick his moments a little more sensibly against the likes of Gorman and Joyce. The right hand that ended matters in the fourth however was of supreme quality.

Also on the show, unbeaten super-middleweight Lerrone Richards produced the finest performance of his short pro career to clearly outscore Tommy Langford, the former British champ in the division below. Richards used his greater size and skills to pull away following a tight first few rounds, eventually taking the 12-round verdict with scores of 118-110, 118-111 and 116-113. He is now the Commonwealth and WBO International title-holder; both belts were vacant.

The other title fight saw promising Fulham super-middle Zak Chelli score an eighth-round knockdown en route to a wide 10-round victory over Slough’s tough Jimmy Smith. This brought the vacant Southern Area crown and Chelli stated pre-fight he would like the Richards vs Langford winner.

Also on the card, Jack Catterall - who, as mandatory, should challenge WBO super-lightweight king Maurice Hooker in the summer - kept busy with a three-round KO of Oscar Amador, while Sunny Edwards grabbed an eighth-sessions stoppage of Pedro Matos.
