After all the confusion of whether or not Kell Brook will get his mandatory title shot against IBF welterweight champ Devon Alexander, Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn says the fight could eventually happen on May 18.
The British boxer was originally to have challenged Alexander on January 19 but that date was postponed when Brook twisted his ankle, preventing him from training. The new date was then set for February 23 but Alexander was forced to postpone after injuring a bicep. Pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr then put a further spanner in the works when he tweeted that Alexander was in the frame to fight him on May 4.
Mayweather Jr is now scheduled to face fellow American Robert Guerrero leaving the way clear for Alexander to fulfill his obligation to face Brook
"I think 18 May is the likely date, we’re just waiting for confirmation," Hearn told BBC Radio Sheffield. "I’m confident by the end of the week we’ll have a confirmed date."
